New for the 2009-2010 year there will be two kinds of awards: Spirit Awards and Grinspoon, Garvey, & Young Awards. For the former, each school has an account balance of $1400 from which to nominate students. Instructions for these nominations are below. Faculty will use this website to submit the Spirit Award nominations. For the Grinspoon, Garvey, & Young awards - the competitive awards – please refer to the faculty Google site or contact Cari Carpenter for instructions. For the competitive awards, you will be using a different nomination form and submitting it to Cari Carpenter via email.
On an annual basis, each participating institution/member receives a $1,400 “Entrepreneurial Spirit Award” budget to be used to identify and recognize students who demonstrate the entrepreneurial spirit. While we hope that each institution uses all or most of its annual budget, our preference is for advisors to identify students who are serious about pursuing their entrepreneurial interests as demonstrated by their actions toward that goal. In other words, it’s better to have two to three serious recipients versus five “concept” recipients and one serious student entrepreneur.
To qualify for nomination, a student must:
- Attend one of the participating schools part-time or full-time as a undergraduate or graduate student, OR be an alum of a participating institution who has graduated within five years of the nomination
- Have taken action toward pursuing his/her entrepreneurial interests
- Have a for-profit business model (this includes “social entrepreneurship” ventures as long as they are for-profit).
- Commit, if chosen to receive an award, to attend the annual spring banquet and participate in the Entrepreneurship Exhibit held during the social hour
Note: The Foundation will NOT fund non-profits or any businesses in countries where the U.S. has declared war or where terrorism or anti-American sentiment is high OR where additional follow-up by the Foundation is required by the Patriot Act.
Award Amount Guidelines:
The nominated amount of the award is at the discretion of the faculty advisor.
Other considerations:
Mr. Grinspoon would like the spirit award recipients to have a positive economic impact in the Pioneer Valley, if possible.
Nomination Submission:
To nominate a student, please click here to complete the spirit award nomination form, attach your nomination narrative (which is your opportunity to share how and why you feel the student has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit and why he/she is deserving of this award), and hit submit. Your nomination will be reviewed by two advising committee members. The Director will get in touch with you via email to communicate the outcome. |
