HENDALEE WILSON RECOGNIZED FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT
Hendalee Wilson of Springfield, a graduate student at UMASS Amherst, has been recognized for his success as an entrepreneur by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative. He and other Spirit Award winners will be honored at this year’s banquet to be held on April 15th at the Log Cabin.
Mr. Wilson’s business, CellAssist, utilizes patent-pending software and hardware and enables users to diagnose automobile problems and control certain auto functions using their cell phones. The information can then be forwarded to the driver’s repair shop or towing company as needed.
In the 2006-2007 academic year, Mr. Harold Grinspoon, through the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative, recognized over 30 students attending colleges and universities in the Pioneer Valley for demonstrating the “entrepreneurial spirit”. Individual awards ranged from $500 to $3,800. It is anticipated that a similar number of students will be recognized this year as well.
Participating institutions include: American International College, Bay Path College, Elms College, Greenfield Community College, Hampshire College, Holyoke Community College, Mt. Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Springfield Technical Community College, University of Massachusetts, Western New England College and Westfield State College.

ALEX (SACHA) WING RECOGNIZED FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT
Alex (Sacha) Wing of Wilbraham has been recognized for demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative. A student at Springfield Technical Community College, he will be among the students honored at the annual banquet to be held on April 15th at The Log Cabin in Holyoke, MA.
Wing grew up in Wilbraham and has always dreamed of becoming an architect and owning his own design firm. He started Wing Design & Contracting, specializing inhome improvementin April of 2005 and will graduate from STCC with a degree in Architectural Design next May.
This year, 53 students attending colleges and universities in the Pioneer Valley have been recognized by the Grinspoon Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative for demonstrating the “entrepreneurial spirit”. Individual awards have ranged from $500 to $3,000.

BAYPATH COLLEGE STUDENT WINS ELEVATOR PITCH COMPETITION
Kimberly Barbato took first place at the Elevator Pitch Competition held during the Awards Banquet for the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Initiative on Tuesday, April 15th at The Log Cabin in Holyoke. The Bay Path College student pitched Healthy Habits: your personal food image monitor, and was awarded $1000. The second prize of $750 was awarded to Sawna Caradwyn from Holyoke Community College who presented M.O.M. (My Other Mom) a laundry and maid service targeted to college students. The two students who tied for third place and were each awarded $500 were Jeremiah Micka of HCC for his retail concept Green Machine and Lilith Dornhuber deBellesiles from Smith College who pitched Ethical Gems, a Fair Trade import business.
The competition was funded by six area banks and officials from the banks also served as judges for the event. They were: Lynn Brown, VP of Commercial Loans, Bank of Western Massachusetts, Dennis Keefe, Senior VP of Commercial Loans, Berkshire Bank, Jim Algie, Senior VP, Country Bank for Savings, Joe Shaw, VP of Business Banking, New Alliance Bank, Marian Poe-Heineman, Senior VP of Commercial Loans, PeoplesBank and Mike Whitman, Senior VP of Commercial Loans, United Bank.
Each student who presented a business idea in the competition won $100. The following colleges participated: American International College, Bay Path College, Elms College, Greenfield Community College, Hampshire College, Holyoke Community College, Mt. Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Springfield Technical Community College, University of Massachusetts, Western New England College and Westfield State College.
