Mission
The mission of the Entrepreneurship Initiatives branch of the HGCF is to encourage entrepreneurial activity in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts by fostering an educational environment among participating colleges/universities that informs, supports, and inspires student entrepreneurs and by recognizing and awarding students who display the entrepreneurial spirit.
The Entrepreneurship Initiatives is championed by a committee of faculty advisors from the following area colleges:
- American International College
- Bay Path College
- The Elms College
- Greenfield Community College
- Hampshire College
- Holyoke Community College
- Smith College
- Springfield College
- Springfield Technical Community College
- Western New England College
- Westfield State College
- UMass Isenberg School of Management and Entrepreneurship Initiative
The Committee meets regularly throughout the year. Its role is to promote entrepreneurship education and activity on all participating campuses through outreach efforts, such as teaching courses in entrepreneurship; overseeing entrepreneurship students organizations; participating in Entrepreneurship Initiatives field trips or conferences; and mentoring students who wish to start their own businesses through the process. Faculty advisors are also responsible for nominating students from their institutions for entrepreneurial spirit awards as well as sending one student per institution to participate in the annual live elevator pitch competition.
